The South West Sustainable Transport Roundtable (SW TAR)
is an umbrella
organisation of
local and regional
groups that promote
sustainability intransport throughout
the South West of England.SW TAR would like to see transport
authorities and associated decision-makingbodies in the region:1.Set and implement traffic reduction and air quality
targets2. Refuse planning
permission to developments generating
large volumes oftraffic, whilst encouraging
local amenities, services and economic activities3. Reduce
parking4. Work with employers and operators to
reduce car trips5. Ensure safer, pleasanter
walking conditions, especially to schools6. Pursue
policies which encourage cycling7. Improve
safety for all road users and cut speed limits8. Work
with operators to improve public transport9. Support
accessible transport for all10. Take measures to reduce
traffic noise11. Encourage people to think before they
drive12. Experiment with alternatives to car ownershipSW
TAR ObjectivesInfluence activity on regional transport which
contributes to a high quality of lifeand environment by:-Obtaining
up to date information about national and regional policies ontransport,
exchanging it with and disseminating to local and regionalorganisations
engaged in sustainable transport;-Sharing local information,
experiences, views and good practice to create theconditions for
a region-wide sustainable transport system in rural and urbanareas;-Creating opportunities for local organisations to:4 Influence
the regional Government Office (GOSW), the RegionalDevelopment
Agency (SW RDA), the Regional Assembly and otherdecision makers
in the South West,4 engage in the regional
sustainable transport debate,4 speak with a
coherent voice on major regional transport issues.SW TAR
membership is open to all regional and local groups who support
